Cullinan Diamond Mine (Surface) & Pretoria City

​

This morning we visit the famous Cullinan / Premier Diamond Mine that produced the world’s largest diamond – 3106 ct Cullinan Diamond. Enjoy some lunch (not included) at one of the numerous restaurants in the village of Cullinan, before visiting one of South Africa’s capital cities and the “Jacaranda Capital” – Pretoria. In Pretoria we reflect on the “Voortrekker / Boer / Afrikaner” history, whilst visiting sites such as the Union Buildings, Church Square, Paul Kruger House and the Voortrekker Monument.

Soweto / Apartheid Museum & Gold Reef City Mine

​

Visit Soweto for a township tour that reflects on the “apartheid” history of SA. On this tour we pass the BaraTaxi Rank, Baragwanath Hospital, Freedom Square (Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication), Old Twin Cooling Towers, Regina Mundi Catholic Church and the Hector Pieterson Museum. We then take a walk down Vilakazi Street (only street in the world to have had two Nobel Prize winners as its residents), this to see archbishop Desmond Tutu’s house and for an included visit to Nelson Mandela’s “Matchbox” House Museum. Lunch at the Truth Café (not included), before your included visit to the Apartheid Museum & now Mandela Museum. This afternoon you can enjoy an interesting escorted underground tour that shows mining techniques of the early 1900 in a genuine South African gold mine and then you have time to explore the rest of Gold Reef City.

Visit Soweto for a township tour that reflects on the “apartheid” history of SA. On this tour we pass the BaraTaxi Rank, Baragwanath Hospital, Freedom Square (Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication), Old Twin Cooling Towers, Regina Mundi Catholic Church and the Hector Pieterson Museum. We then take a walk down Vilakazi Street (only street in the world to have had two Nobel Prize winners as its residents), this to see archbishop Desmond Tutu’s house and for an included visit to Nelson Mandela’s “Matchbox” House Museum. Lunch at the Truth Café (not included), before your included visit to the Apartheid Museum & now Mandela Museum. You then have time for some shopping at one of Johannesburg’s exclusive malls or curio outlets.

Pilanesburg “Big 5” Safari & Sun City

​

Early morning departure for Pilanesburg Game Reserve, which is South Africa’s fourth largest game reserve and it boasts with the “Big 5” namely rhino, elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard and lion. This afternoon we drive to Sun City, also known as “Africa’s Kingdom of Pleasure”, which is built in the heart of an extinct volcanic crater. After lunch you could try your luck at the casino tables or spend some time at the impressive “valley of the waves”.

Johannesburg City / Apartheid Museum & Soweto

​

We drive through the old & new downtown Johannesburg passing on route various historical building, the Carlton Centre and Ghandi Square. We then visit the Old Johannesburg Fort that was used as a prison until 1986, it is the only prison in the world to have 2 Nobel Peace prize winners (Luthuli & Mandela) incarcerated, as well as the famous Ghandi. The establishment is now known as Constitution Hill, home of our Constitutional Court. We then drive to Gold Reef City for lunch at the Truth Café (not included) and an included visit to the Apartheid Museum & now Mandela Museum.  This afternoon we visit Soweto for a township tour that reflects on the “apartheid” history of SA. Lion Park & Lesedi Cultural Village

​

Nowhere in Africa can you get closer to a pride of lions and still be completely safe. See the animals up close with all the activities that the “Lion Park – Mini Safari” offers. Amazing photo opportunities await you around every corner in the park with more than 100 lions and other different large African carnivore species including hyenas, cheetahs and wild dogs…, with the rare white lion being the main attraction.

After all the excitement, we visit Lesedi Cultural Village with 5 traditional homesteads including Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Basotho and Ndebele. Visitors are invited to observe the Africa way of life on a short tour of the village and then ending with the” Giant Ingoma” – song & dance from all five villages, before you. Pan Africa Feast – lunch / dinner is also included.

Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre – Dewildt

The cheetah centre was established in 1971, initially as a cheetah breeding project. The centre has recently been renamed to “The Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre” as a tribute to the woman that devoted her life to the survival of the cheetah species. Enjoy the “cheetah run” and an interesting 3 hour tour of the centre where you will see cheetah, African wild dog, brown hyena, vultures and various other wildlife species.

Rietvlei Nature Reserve – “Big game on our doorstep”

​

On the eastern boundaries of Johannesburg & Pretoria you have a little known gem of a nature reserve with hundreds of bird species and some 1600 head of game, including: cheetah, leopard, buffalo, white rhino, blesbuck, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, eland, Burchell’s zebra, waterbuck, reedbuck, springbuck, mountain reedbuck, steenbuck, grey duiker, as well as elusive nocturnal animals, such as: brown hyena, black-backed jackal, ant-bear, aardwolf, porcupine, springhare and bush pig. It is easy to spot most of these animals on the open plains, and also because the 60 km of tarred & dirt roads enable you to get close up to these creatures. Included in this excursion is an open vehicle safari in the lion camp. Lunch can be enjoyed on arrival or departure at the restaurant situated on the reserve (not included).
